Oxygen Nanobubbles for Barramundi Fingerlings

EFFECTS OF NANOBUBBLE SUPERSATURATION ON GUT MICROBIOME AND GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF BARRAMUNDI

https://iaeme.com/Home/article_id/IJAQ_03_02_001

This study investigates the physiological and microbial impacts

of nanobubble (NB)  oxygen supersaturation on the gut microbiome

composition and growth performance of Barramundi (Lates calcarifer),

a key tropical aquaculture species.

A 90-day controlled experiment was conducted comparing conventional

aeration systems with nanobubbleenriched tanks under identical feeding

and environmental conditions. Results demonstrated a significant improvement

in feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), and oxygen

utilization efficiency in nanobubble treatments. Highthroughput 16S rRNA

sequencing revealed enhanced microbial diversity and enrichment of

probiotic genera (Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Cetobacterium), indicating
improved gut health and nutrient absorption

Nanobubble oxygen supersaturation significantly improves

growth performance, gut microbial diversity, and physiological health

of Barramundi. The optimized DO conditions enhance feed efficiency,

stimulate beneficial gut bacteria, and maintain redox homeostasis
without inducing oxidative stress. These results demonstrate that

nanobubble technology can serve as a transformative bioengineering

solution for sustainable, zero-discharge aquaculture systems.

Its integration into tropical fish farming could redefine water management and
microbial optimization, ensuring both ecological and economic benefits
